Fourteenth intensive war journalism program, organized by Anadolu Agency’s News Academy in collaboration with Turkish Police Academy, ended on Friday.

Several subjects -- including journalism, personal security, first aid, advanced driving techniques, water survival techniques, survival during chemical and biological attacks and media management in hostile environments -- were taught during the program.

In addition to the reporters from Anadolu Agency, Syrian reporters from various media organizations took part in the program.

During the training on April 29-30, the trainees were informed about abduction, hostage situation, position controls at checkpoints, weapons and personal safety issues and bulletproof equipment.

Within the scope of field trainings, trainees walked for miles in difficult terrain and spent the night in their own positions.

Also the war reporter candidates were taught both theoretically and practically on close defense training, such as self-defense, the body's sensitive and critical points, distance control and focus.

In the 12-day training, 76 hours of practical and 20 hours of theoretical lectures were given. It started on May 22.

The journalists were trained on how to survive in conflict zones and risky areas while producing news, photos and videos.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Director of the News Academy Alptekin Cihangir Isbilir said the program is the best of its kind in terms of capacity and quality.

The war journalism program will continue for national and international reporters, he said, and recalled that 1,226 reporters have so far been trained in 17 different programs in 2018.

Successful participants were awarded with internationally-recognized certificates.
