ANKARA
The Anadolu Agency Director-General, Kemal Ozturk, presented a special collector’s edition of the agency’s book series “AA Was There” to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan Tuesday at the Presidential Palace.
The books presented to the president had the special “00” serial numbers.
The three-volume series in Turkish, English and Arabic covers the war and revolution in Egypt, Gaza and Syria.
President Erdogan was briefed about the book series, who also signed the certificates inside the books.
“Our region has been going through hard times. Turkey is working hard to solve the problems of the countries in the region. AA’s books will leave a mark in the history; they serve humanity and our region,” Erdogan said.
The book series were also presented to Deputy Prime Minister Yalcin Akdogan and Minister of Food, Agriculture and Livestock Mehdi Eker.
The three books include first-hand witness accounts by AA's field correspondents.
Some 30 reporters and correspondents worked to create “The Incomplete Revolution: Egypt” under AA Director-General Ozturk, who was the chief editor.
There are three chapters in the book, including about Egypt's recent history; fall of Hosni Mubarak; and the coup staged by the General Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi which removed the country’s first elected president, Mohamed Morsi.
"War, Blockade, Resistance: Gaza" includes notes on Palestine's recent history, including the impact of Palestine's iconic leader Yasser Arafat; Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan's famous “One Minute” reaction at the Davos economic summit in 2009; and Israel's 51-day operation in the Gaza Strip which left some 2,147 Gazans – mostly civilians – dead.
"The Orphaned Nation: Syria" begins with the country’s political history and examines the hunger, deaths and sorrow the devastating civil war brought.
Each book contains exclusive images from AA photojournalists.
There are only 500 copies in the special collector’s edition, which are presented to top officials and collectors.
The Anadolu Agency aims to become one of the world’s five most influential news agencies by 2020 on the occasion of its 100th anniversary.
