The US tech giant Nvidia's chief Jensen Huang Wednesday hailed China’s development in artificial intelligence (AI), saying it was a “catalyst” for global progress.
“China’s open-source AI is a catalyst for global progress, giving every country and industry a chance to join the AI revolution,” Huang told the opening ceremony of the China International Supply Chain Expo in Beijing.
Dubbing AI as a “fundamental infrastructure” like electricity and the internet, he said: “AI is transforming every industry, from scientific research and healthcare to energy, transportation, and logistics,” according to a video record of the event.
Huang, the co-founder of Nvidia, said the large language models developed by Chinese companies -- including DeepSeek, Alibaba Group Holding, Tencent Holdings, MiniMax, and Baidu -- were “world-class.”
The first public company in history to reach the milestone of the $4-trillion market capitalization, Nvidia last week surpassed both Apple and Microsoft -- which reached a $3-trillion market value before Nvidia -- and it has become the most valuable corporation in the world.
Founded in 1993, the California-based business first crossed the $2 trillion threshold in February 2024, and then topped $3 trillion in June.
Nvidia has benefited greatly from the rising demand for AI processors and gear, especially after the development of AI chatbots such as ChatGPT.
The company said Tuesday that it will resume the sales of its H20 AI chips to China after the US government pledged to remove licensing restrictions.
