WASHINGTON
US President Donald Trump said Monday that he wants the Keystone XL pipeline, a long-debated oil infrastructure project, to be built.
"We want the Keystone XL Pipeline built!" he said on his Truth Social platform.
After taking office on Jan. 20, Trump swiftly moved to rescind the orders of former President Joe Biden, who revoked a key permit in 2021 for the pipeline, which was intended to run from Alberta, Canada into the US, passing through Montana and South Dakota to Nebraska.
"I know they were treated very badly by Sleepy Joe Biden, but the Trump Administration is very different — Easy approvals, almost immediate start! If not them, perhaps another Pipeline Company," Trump said.
The pipeline was first proposed in 2008 before facing opposition due to climate change concerns. Then-President Barack Obama rejected the project in 2015, and Trump reversed that decision when he took office in 2017.
In 2021, TC Energy confirmed that it had terminated the project after a "comprehensive review" of its options.
