Peruvian Defense Minister Carlos Diaz resigned over the government's decision to postpone the purchase of F-16 fighter jets from the US, Peruvian radio outlet RPP reported Wednesday.
In a resignation letter to President Jose Maria Balcazar, Diaz said the purchase was postponed despite a fundamental disagreement.
He warned the move could compromise Peru's national interests.
Diaz took on the role of defense minister on March 17.
The presidency did not immediately comment on the resignation.
