Biden awards Medal of Honor to 4 Vietnam veterans
Veterans 'performed acts of incredible heroism during the Vietnam conflict,' says US president
US President Joe Biden awarded four Vietnam veterans Tuesday with the country’s highest military honor at the White House.
Biden said the veterans "stood in the way of danger, risked everything, literally everything to defend our nation and our values."
The recipients of the Medal of Honor include Specialist Five Dwight Birdwell, retired Maj. John Duffy, Specialist Five Dennis Fujii and Staff Sgt. Edward Kaneshiro. Kaneshiro was awarded posthumously.
"We're upgrading the awards of four soldiers who performed acts of incredible heroism during the Vietnam conflict," said Biden.
The medal "is awarded to members of the armed forces who distinguish themselves conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of their own lives above and beyond the call of duty," according to the White House.
The Vietnam war is the second-longest in US history after the war in Afghanistan.Anadolu Agency website contains only a portion of the news stories offered to subscribers in the AA News Broadcasting System (HAS), and in summarized form. Please contact us for subscription options.
