At least three people were killed in a mass shooting in the US state of New Mexico on Monday, according to a police statement.

Multiple officers from the Farmington Police Department engaged with the suspected shooter in Farmington, who was killed on the scene, the police department said.

The suspect’s identity is still unknown and there are no other known threats at this time, according to the statement.

"Two officers were shot, one from the Farmington Police Department and one from New Mexico State Police, both currently at San Juan Regional Medical Center being treated for their injuries and in stable condition," it said.

"There are multiple civilian victims with at least 3 deceased," said the statement.
