Nigeria's chief justice has been charged for declaring false assets details, an official statement said on Saturday.

The statement issued by anti-corruption agency Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) said Walter Onnoghen will be arraigned on Monday on a six-count charge which has been filed at the code of conduct tribunal.

Daily Trust, a local daily, reported that the government accuses the chief justice of declaring false assets details and operating domiciliary foreign currency account.

No serving chief justice has ever been charged while in office. In 2015, the Code of Conduct Bureau charged a sitting senate president for corruption, however, he was later discharged by the supreme court.
