UK: Private jet crash kills bin Laden family members

LONDON

Four passengers, including at least two members of Osama bin Laden’s family were killed in a private jet crash near an airport in England’s southern city of Hampshire on Friday, it was announced Saturday.

The Saudi Embassy U.K. confirmed the crash on its official Twitter account Saturday. In a statement, Ambassador Prince Mohammed bin Nawaf Al Saud offered his condolences to the "family and relatives of Mohammed bin Laden".

The statement also said that the Saudi embassy was working with British officials to investigate the incident and would ensure that the bodies of the bin Laden family members were sent back to Saudi Arabia as soon as possible.

The identities of the victims were not confirmed; however, the British press reported that Osama bin Laden’s sister and stepmother were among the passengers who died. The pilot of the jet was also reportedly killed in the incident.

The plane, a Phenom 300 jet, which departed from the Italian city of Milan crashed at about 3.00 p.m., local time into a car auction site at the end of the Blackbushe Airport’s runway.

Osama bin Laden was the leader of the global terrorist organization Al Qaeda. He was killed in an American raid in Pakistan's garrison city of Abbottabad in May 2011.
