Stockholm-Ankara flights launched

ISTANBUL

The first commercial flight between Ankara's Esenboga Airport and Stockholm arrived in the Turkish capital on Thursday, airport operating company TAV Airports announced.

The 127 passengers and crew on the Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) service were greeted by flower-laden officials.

Nuray Demirer, director general of TAV Esenboga, said: "We are pleased with the start of flights that connect the capitals of Turkey and Sweden today following Esenboga-Copenhagen flights that began in June."

She said further destinations would be added to the airport's flight network.

Scandinavian Airlines will operate return Stockholm-Ankara flights every Thursday. Esenboga currently runs flights to 36 Turkish and 23 international destinations.

The airport served more than 11 million passengers last year.
