Iraq: 5 killed, 17 injured in Baghdad attacks

ANKARA

At least five people were killed and 17 others were injured in three separate attacks in Iraq Friday, police said.

According to police, three rockets hit southern Baghdad’s Ed-Dora that killed three people and injured nine others.

A blast in Baghdad’s southern Saidiya killed one person and wounded six others.

A lieutenant colonel was also reportedly killed in a car bomb explosion in northern Baghdad, which also left two others injured.

There has been security vacuum in Iraq, which has been hit hard by the terrorist group Daesh, which is the Arabic name of Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant group, since June.

The group has seized control of vast swathes of Iraq and Syria despite dozens of airstrikes conducted by U.S.-led coalition forces since August 2014.
