Nineveh, Iraq (AA)

At least 20 Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or ISIL, militants have been killed by U.S.-led coalition airstrikes in Iraq, authorities said Monday.

Security sources said that the international coalition had staged four airstrikes against ISIL some 127 km west of Mosul, in the Sinjar district and in the town of Bashiqa. Authorities said that the coalition had also destroyed many vehicles and tankers transporting oil.

Iraq has been gripped by a security vacuum since June, when the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or ISIL, stormed the northern province of Mosul and declared what it calls a caliphate in Iraq and Syria.

A U.S.-led international coalition is carrying out airstrikes to support Kurdish and central Iraqi government security forces in their fight against ISIL.

 Spyker military base trial

Meanwhile, the Iraqi Central Investigation Court decided to detain 160 people charged for killing 1,700 people in June at the Spyker military base, in Tikrit, northwest of Baghdad.

The head of the court, Macid el-Araci, said in a statement released Monday that the detained were also accused with property confiscation and imposing a travel ban.

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant militants have posted on twitter video footage of a massive killing of people following the capture of the Spyker military base in Tikrit on June 12th, days after taking the control of Mosul, Iraq’s second largest city.
