PARIS

The death toll from a Paris-suburb building collapse has risen to eight after the body of a man was pulled out from the rubble Monday.

The 50-year-old, who is understood to have lived on the ground floor of the building, was the building's guard.

Rescuers have said they believe no one else was trapped under the rubble, after earlier saying that a child was also thought to be inside.

Of the 11 people injured in the incident, four are still reported to be in a serious condition after part of the four-storey residential building in Rosny-sous-Bois collapsed Sunday morning, leaving almost half the structure standing.

France's Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve told French BFMTV from the site Sunday that the collapse followed an explosion that was likely caused by a gas leak.

He added that an investigation into the collapse is ongoing "and until it is complete, we can have no certainty" as to what caused it.
