Thirty-five people have been killed in two separate attacks in Iraq’s Anbar and Mosul provinces on Wednesday, according to an Iraqi army source.
The commander of Anbar operations, Lt. Gen. Rasheed Fleih said that the army’s aircraft launched an operation 10 kilometers to the north of Fallujah.
At least 32 ‘Islamic State’ militants were killed, 12 vehicles were destroyed and 13 bombs were defused, Fleih said.
In a separate incident, three Kurdish peshmerga fighters were killed north of Mosul during clashes with ISIL militants, according to Kurdish Regional Government security officials.
The conflict between the army and the militants entered a new stage last month when insurgents captured a number of key cities and towns in Iraq.
More than a million people in the region have fled their homes, according to the U.N.’s humanitarian agency.
