SARAJEVO

Bosnia and Herzegovina is set to hold its first ever national census in 22 years from October 1-5 while the first preliminary results will be announced within 90 days after.

In order to be valid, census needs to cover at least 95 percent of the population, Nora Selimovic, chief of methodology from Agency for Statistics of BiH, told the Anadolu Agency.

The main methodology for the census will be based on door to door interviews.

"With this census, we will find out how many people are living in Bosnia, who they are, what gender, age and education they have, how they live," Selimovic said.

There are 46 census questions, well over an international norm which dictates each country to have at least 27. Main questions are about basic data about every citizen, including date of birth, education, nationality, culture and economic status.

According to the law in Bosnia, every person is obliged to respond to the census.

It will take 6 to 8 months for the census to be completed.

The last census in Bosnia and Herzegovina was made in 1991 before Yugoslavia disintegrated.

In 1992, Bosnia broke away from Yugoslavia, which was followed by a bloody war that claimed more than 100,000 lives and left more than one million displaced.
