Turkish Air Force grounds A400Ms after Spain crash

ANKARA

The Turkish Air Force (THK) on Sunday announced the grounding of its two Airbus A400M cargo aircraft following a fatal crash in Spain.

Saturday’s accident during flight checks at Seville involved a third A400M ordered by the THK. Four aircrew died and two were seriously injured when the four-engine turboprop plane hit power lines as it attempted an emergency landing, Spanish media reported.

In a statement on Saturday, Airbus said the aircraft was due to be delivered to Turkey next month.

The manufacture of the A400M, designed to replace aging military transport aircraft such as the C130 Hercules, was launched in 2003. Turkey had been due to receive 10 planes.

Other air forces have also suspended A400M flights.
