Constitutional Court starts accepting individual applications
ANKARA (AA) - September 24, 2012 - Turkish Constitutional Court on Monday began accepting individual petitions for all complaints of human rights violations.
The petitions have been made possible thanks to a referendum on September 12, 2010.
Filing an individual petition will cost 172.5 Turkish liras (approx. 95.8 USD).
If the Constitutional Court finds out that a human rights violation was caused by the decision of a Turkish court, the case would be sent back to the same court for review and possible retrial.
Guidelines have been prepared to assist those individuals wanting to fill out applications of complaints at the Constitutional Court.
With the new petitions system, the number of cases at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) against Turkey is expected to drop.
