No "plan B" other than reunification in Cyprus
European Commissioner for enlargement Stefan Fule said Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot leaders must show a powerful political determination for a settlement in their island, adding he ruled out any alternative to reunification.
" Cyprus in its entirety isEU territory and the Union is dead set to support all constructive efforts to end the division. There is no room for a plan B and the EU fully supports UN-brokered settlement negotiations," Fule told reporters in Lefkosa during an inauguration ceremony of an EU-funded market place.
Fule also urged Cypriot leaders to resume efforts to reach a settlement after the Greek Cypriot administration's six-month presidency of the rotatingEU helm, which is set to start on July 1.
"Reunification of Cyprus means a united Europe. And it is not a dream but an opportunity to be seized," Fule said.
