TURKISH FRIGATE RETURNS HOME AFTER ANTI-PIRACY MISSION OFF SOMALI
ImageKOCAELI - After its anti-piracy mission off Somali for five months, Turkish frigate TCG Gediz, with 266 crew members on board, returned home on Thursday.

A ceremony was held at a naval base in Marmara Sea to welcome Turkish sailors. Families and officials greeted Turkish sailors in Golcuk, Kocaeli.  
The frigate was participating in an international mission under the Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 to hunt Somali pirates in the Gulf of Aden and Arab Sea.
During her mission in open sea off Somali, TCG Gediz has launched five operations against Somali pirates and escorted 122 Turkish cargo ships safely during their navigation off the east coast of Africa.
Speaking to reporters after the ceremony, commander of Turkish war fleet Admiral Mucahit Sislioglu said that TCG Gediz had also escorted several foreign ships during her mission.
