US diplomat: Diplomacy way to go on preventing proliferation of nuclear weapons
The senior US diplomat in Turkey has said that diplomacy was the way to follow on preventing proliferation of nuclear weapons in the region.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday in Ankara, the Turkish capital, U.S. ambassador in Turkey, Francis Ricciardone stated that they had been working with Turkey on preventing proliferation of nuclear weapons in the area.
"Throughout that subject, we certainly recognize the strategic importance of Turkey. We believe, we are focused with our Turkish ally on the same strategic purpose of preventing proliferation of nuclear weapons in this region. How we go about that is something we have to work out together. There are no easy answers. But we all agree that diplomacy is the way to go. So that's what we are working on" he said.
"We are in very close touch with the government of Turkey on how to contain proliferation in this region, how to encourage the government of Iran to work with the International Atomic Energy Agency and the world community" said Ricciardone in order to reassure everyone that Iran was pursuing peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
