Fighting between Daesh and Kurdish fighters has erupted around Tal Abyad on the Syrian-Turkish border, two weeks after Kurdish forces seized the town.

Daesh launched an attack on the eastern districts of Tal Abyad in Raqqa province, according to an Anadolu Agency correspondent. The town has been held by fighters from the People’s Protection Units (YPG) since they took the area from Daesh.

Two people injured in the fighting were taken to Akcakale on the Turkish side of the border for medical treatment.

Smoke could be seen from across the border and at least one stray bullet hit a vehicle in Akcakale.

The U.K.-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported shelling between the two sides.

Elsewhere, an Anadolu Agency reporter witnessed Daesh militants planting landmines along the border near Jerablus in Aleppo province on Tuesday.

Two militants stood guard while a third buried the mines. A group of men were seen digging ditches in the same area on Monday.
