Football: Real down but not out against Juventus

ANKARA

Italy’s Juventus capitalized on home advantage against Real Madrid on Tuesday night, beating the Spanish giants 2-1 in the Champions League semi-final first leg.

Former Real striker Alvaro Morata pounced in the 9th minute to give Juve an early lead in Turin, tapping the ball in after a rebound off keeper Iker Casillas.

Cristiano Ronaldo pulled one back for the visitors in the 27th minute. James Rodriguez crossed for Ronaldo to score with his head.

It was Ronaldo’s 76th Champions League goal, surpassing Barcelona star Lionel Messi's record and making the Portuguese the competition’s all-time top scorer.

A 56th minute penalty award against Real came when Dani Carvajal  fouled Juventus' Carlos Tevez in the box. He duly stepped up to make it 2-1 from the spot.

The second leg will be played on May 13 in Madrid.

On Wednesday night Barcelona meet Bayern Munich in the other first leg in Barcelona. The match kicks off at 20.45 CET (1945 GMT).
