Football regulator to rule on Serbia-Albania debacle

BELGRADE, Serbia

Europe's top football regulator will decide who is to blame for wrecking the Serbia-Albania 2016 qualifier match, according to organization sources.

The Union of European Football Associations,  the governing body of European football, has tasked its Disciplinary Committee with investigating what happened on Oct. 14, when the match had to be abandoned due to fan violence.

Serbian Football Federation President Tomoslav Karadzic has told Anadolu Agency (AA)  that his group has gathered all the evidence relating to the abandoned Serbia, Albania Euro 2016 qualifier match.

"Everything was initiated by Albania," Karadzic claimed.

"The match was stopped due to the release of a flag with a 'Great Albania' map on it, and it included the Kosovo area. If that had not happened, the match would have continued in the normal way.  I deny that any blame should be attached to Serbia,"  Karadzic insisted.

"We determined that Albanian player Taulat Xhaka was sent to take the  'Great Albania' flag. Then Xhaka turned to our player Stefan Mitrovic who was trying to put the flag down to continue the match. Then all the chaos happened,"said Kradzic.

Karadzic stated that, they have delivered all the documents relating to the Serbia, Albania match to the Union's center in Nyon, Switzerland.

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has denied the charges, and has placed the blame on the Serbian team.

The UEFA has launched disciplinary proceedings against Serbia because of the fan violence. At the same time, the Union is investigating the actions of the Albanian team.
