The problems faced by the Turkish community in Netherlands came under discussion in a meeting between Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and his Dutch counterpart Bert Koenders in Brussels Tuesday, diplomatic sources said.

Cavusoglu is in Brussels to attend a NATO foreign ministers’ meeting.

When asked whether he thought Netherlands was a racist country, the Turkish foreign minister said: ''No, but there are racist tendencies. Just look at the results of the European elections.''

The minister noted that far-right parties in the Netherlands had increased.

Sources close to Cavusoglu also said he expressed his concerns to the Dutch foreign minister regarding its policies towards the Turkish community living in the Netherlands. The Turkish minister reportedly told his Dutch counterpart that Turkey would not abandon its Turkish community in the Netherlands.
