At least seven migrants were killed when a boat capsized and sank off Turkey’s southwest province of Mugla in the coast of Marmaris Saturday, the provincial governor said.

There were around 15 people on board when the boat sank after its engine broke down off the Hisaronu port city, Mugla Governor Amir Cicek said. Six people were also rescued and transferred to Marmaris state hospital, the governor added.

“15 people were on the boat. We have found seven dead bodies and still we are searching for two of them. According to initial reports, the migrants were from Iran and Iraq,” Cicek said.

Two coast guard vessels and a helicopter were continuing to search for survivors, he said.

The governor said that the refugees were trying to get to Greece’s island of Kos, about 3.2 kilometers (2 miles) from the coast of Turkey, when tragedy struck.
