Police detain 70 people in Gezi Park protests

Istanbul (AA) - Riot police detained 70 people on Monday in protests at Istanbul's Taksim Square after clashes earlier in the morning which saw protesters hurling Molotov bombs. 

Istanbul Police Department made an operation in the morning at the Taksim Square, the Ataturk Monument, and the Ataturk Culture Center to remove illegal banners. 

The 70 detainees were under interrogation at counter-terrorism branch of Istanbul Police Department. 

A member of Socialist Democracy Party (SDP), who threw a Molotov bomb at police and reportedly carried a gun, is also among the  detainees. He also served 6 months in jail for being a member to a terrorist organization.
