MONTREAL

Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird said his country might not take part in a possible military operation that is likely to target Syria.

Following a meeting, Baird said Canada is in agreement with its allies but his country’s military capabilities in the region might not be sufficient for an operation in Syria. Baird said a possible intervention would involve cruise missiles that Canada does not have in the region.

Baird said Canada will give support to its allies if they decide for a military operation and added that calling parliament to convene would be too early at this stage.

John Baird also noted that Assad regime was able to stand this long thanks to Russian support to Syria at UN Security Council and its aids.
