British PM Cameron: We must never forget Srebrenica

LONDON

We must never forget the Srebrenica massacre and do everything to prevent genocide in the future, said British Prime Minister David Cameron, during a ceremony for the massacre’s 20th anniversary in London.

A U.K. charity Remembering Srebrenica organized the event Monday, which was attended by at least 2,000 people, including the chairman of the Bosnia and Herzegovina presidential council, Bakir Izetbegovic, and the president of the association Mothers of Srebrenica, Munira Subasic.

“We must never, ever forget what happened at Srebrenica,” said Cameron, adding that the 20th anniversary of the massacre was a moment to remember the thousands who lost their lives, their families and the missing.

British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond stated that today was a day to remember the murder of thousands of innocent Muslims.

“It reminds us that it is imperative for us to do all that we can to stop this kind of atrocity from ever happening again,” he said.

More than 8,000 Muslim men and boys were killed in Srebrenica in July 1995 when Bosnian Serb troops seized the town, which was supposed to be a safe haven under the protection of Dutch UN peacekeepers.
