Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has said that Africa was capable of combating epidemics and terrorism.

"Africa is now united more than any time before," Mugabe told The Anadolu Agency on Friday.

"The continent, which has been liberated from colonialism, is capable of combating some phenomena as terrorism," added Mugabe, who this year holds the rotating chairmanship of the African Union (AU).

"Terrorism is an imported industry and Africa is capable of containing it," added Mugabe, who at 91 years old is the world's oldest sitting leader.

In recent years, several African countries have been ravaged by bloody insurgencies, like Al-Shabaab in Somalia and Boko Haram in Nigeria and Cameroon.

West Africa, meanwhile, has been ravaged by the deadly Ebola virus, which has killed more than 8,000 people in recent months.
