Syrian artillery shells fall in Turkey

SANLIURFA

Governor of the south-eastern province of Sanliurfa, Celalettin Guvenc said that 3-4 Syrian artillery shells landed in Akcakale town at around 16.30 hours today.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting at the mayor's office in Akcakale, Guvenc stressed that one of the artillery shells hit a residence killing 5 people inside.
"We wish for God's mercy to those killed in Akcakale and offer our condolences to their loved ones," Governor Guvenc said.
"At the incident, 10 people were wounded, including police officers. Two of those wounded are in a serious condition," Guvenc stated.
"We have to act with restraint. We need to act with common sense despite the great pain we have suffered. We have informed our prime minister about the developments. All necessary meetings in Ankara are being conducted. I want to underline that we need to act with wisdom despite the fact that our anger and pain are deep," Guvenc noted.
"A while back, we had evacuated 30 residences in the region close to the Turkish-Syrian border and schools went on a recess as a precautionary measure," Guvenc also said.

Erdogan holds meeting with advisers and bureaucrats

Moreover, Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan is having a meeting with his advisers and high level bureaucrats in Ankara after Syrian artillery shells falling in the south-eastern town of Akcakale killed at least three people and wounded nine others.
Prime Minister Erdogan received briefings from the Chief of Turkish General Staff Gen. Necdet Ozel, Governor of Sanliurfa Celalettin Guvenc and Mayor of Akcakale Abdulhakim Ayhan on today's incident in Akcakale.

Davutoglu spoke with Arab League-UN special envoy Brahimi about Syrian shells

On the other hand, Davutoglu held phone conversation with Brahimi after getting briefed by the Turkish General Staff and the Governor of Sanliurfa province Celalettin Guvenc.
Davutoglu is currently in a meeting with senior Turkish diplomats in Ankara.
Minister Davutoglu had to cancel his several scheduled events due to the situation in Akcakale.
