Greek tourists, first foreign visitors of Zeytinliada
BALIKESIR (AA) - August 8, 2012 - First foreign visitors of Turkey's first "Archeopark Island Museum" in Erdek district have been from Greece.
The planned official opening of the museum will be made after Ramadan feast however Greek tourists got information on the museum from Nurettin Ozturk, an assistant professor at Ataturk University and the head of the excavation team.
Greek tourists also visited Mother Mary church in Zeytinliada known as “the greatest church in the world” in ancient sources.
Professor Ozturk stated that Greek tourists were impressed by the archeological works in Zeytinliada and said, "I believe that after the opening of the island, there will be more foreign tourists coming for a visit."
The Mother Mary church, located in Zeytinliada near Erdek and known as “the greatest church in the world,” has been on excavation and will soon open to tourists as a new archeopark.
Erdek formerly Artake is a holiday town in the Balikesir province of Turkey.
