Turkey: PKK blamed for fatal double shooting

DIYARBAKIR, Turkey

A Turkish police officer and a civilian were killed in a gun attack in the country’s southeastern Diyarbakir province early Thursday.

Police officer Mehmet Uyar and Osman Caran were shot with a long-barreled weapon fired from a car while sitting in front of a tea house in the Cinar district, a police source told Anadolu Agency.

The attack is being blamed on Kurdistan Workers' Party terrorist group.

A third man, Ibrahim Turan, was injured and taken to Cinar Public Hospital for treatment before being transferred to Diyarbakir.

An investigation has been launched to find those responsible.

Turkey’s military and police have been hit by a number of attacks over the past week following the Daesh-linked suicide bombing in Suruc, Sanliurfa province, which killed 32 people on July 20.
