Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic has expressed his willingness to visit the Bosnian town of Srebrenica and pay his tribute to the genocide victims of the 1995 tragedy.

"The president was ready to come to Sarajevo [before] and even now is ready to go to Srebrenica to commemorate the victims of terrible crimes. The president at the same time has expressed his willingness to work with members of the presidency to honor the victims of all religions at the places that these people choose," Nikolic said in a statement Tuesday.

About the UN resolution on Srebrenica genocide, he said that it would not contribute to peace.

"The initiative of Great Britain that the UN Security Council adopt a resolution about Srebrenica will not contribute to reconciliation in the region at all, neither will it prevent similar crimes happening in the future," he said.

"The resolution would further deepen the scars of the families of those killed and hinder reconciliation in the region," he added.

The draft text of the British-led UN resolution on Srebrenica genocide is expected to be submitted to the Security Council in early July as Bosnia prepares to hold commemorations on July 11.

More than 8,000 Muslim men and boys were killed in Srebrenica in July 1995 when Bosnian Serb troops seized the town, which was supposed to be a safe haven under the protection of Dutch UN peacekeepers.
