Turkey imported 14.6 billion USD of energy in the first quarter of 2012.
According to figures of Turkey's statistics authority, TurkStat, Turkey imported 4.692 billion USD of energy in January, 4.605 billion USD in February and 5.336 billion USD of energy in March.
In total, Turkey imported 14.6 billion USD of energy in the first quarter of 2012, which indicated a 25 percent year-on-year rise. This figure was only 11.7 billion USD in the same quarter of 2011.
Turkey imported 1.387 million tons of crude oil in January, 1.318 million tons in February, 1.709 million tons in March. Turkey's total crude oil import in the first quarter reached 4.415 million tons.
Turkey's crude oil import in the same quarter of 2011 was 4.120 million tons.
Last week, a chief economist of International Energy Agency said that current oil prices could cause an economic recess in the world.
Fatih Birol said many oil importer countries were facing serious problems, and Turkey was one of them.
Birol also said if oil prices stood around 120 USD, Turkey's energy import could climb to 68 billion USD, which would be a significant figure for current account deficit.
