Italy: Former PM Berlusconi completes community service

MILAN, Italy

Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi completed his community service at a Milan hospice Friday.

Berlusconi was sentenced to four years in prison in 2013 on tax fraud charges, but his sentence was later commuted to 10 months community service.

Director of La Sacra Famiglia hospice said in a statement that Berlusconi had cooperated with judicial authorities for the execution of his sentence.

The septuagenarian helped Alzheimer patients at the hospice every Friday for four hours.

“Sacra Famiglia has been an emotional experience for me. I intend to continue that experience,” Berlusconi said. The former premier reportedly also brought gifts for patients on his last day at the hospice.

He remains disqualified from public service. Berlusconi is a media mogul in Italy who served as prime minister of Italy three times.
