In the 34th minute, Besiktas winger Gokhan Tore crossed from right. Balikesirspor player Aykut Ceviker handballed in the box, which sent the referee pointing the spot. Besiktas striker Demba Ba scored from the penalty kick: 1-0.

Besiktas' Colombian center back Pedro Franco was sent off after Balikesirspor Turkish forward Sercan Yildirim in injury time. Franco was the last man. Besiktas were obliged to play with 10 men.

Near the end of the game Balikesirspor midfielder Vargas' free kick rattled the crossbar. Visitors missed the winning goal in the nick of time.
