PARIS

At least five people have been arrested by anti-terror police in southern France.

Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said that two of the men arrested in the small town of Lunel on Tuesday morning had allegedly just returned from fighting in Syria.

"The arrested men were either coming back from Syria and Iraq, or involved in recruiting young French men to fight in the conflict zones," Cazeneuve said.

Twenty people from the small town of 26,000 residents, east of Montpellier, have left to travel to conflict zones in Syria and Iraq, he said.

At least six of them have been killed.

France has been on high alert since two deadly attacks that targeted offices of French magazine Charlie Hebdo and a kosher grocery store on Jan. 7, leaving 17 people dead.

A total of 154 people have been arrested, 90 questioned and 75 imprisoned since the attacks, according to Cazeneuve.

Justice Minister Christiane Taubira said that 110 legal cases involving alleged fighters returning to France from Syria and Iraq were currently being processed.
