SIMFEROPOL, Ukraine

Russian police have raided Monday the Crimean Tatar television station, ATR, in the city of Simferopol, according to station officials.

According to ATR director-general Elzara Islamova, police searched every single room for videos dating from February 2014 as part of an investigation on the death of two people during a demonstration in front of the Crimean Parliament prior to Russia's annexation of the peninsula.

Islamova stated that Russia's Investigative Committee and the Interior Ministry said they were searching for the videos as part of the case.

"It is being said that we have not provided a video to the Investigative Committee," Islamova told the press.

Police officers then prevented her from providing any more information.

According to ATR deputy director Liliya Budzhurova, at least 20 armed officers, along with 50 riot police troops, entered the building. She added that no one had been allowed to enter or leave the building during their search.

The television station has now resumed broadcast.
