UEFA Europa League matchday three begins Wednesday

ANKARA

Matchday three of the UEFA Europa League is starting on Wednesday.

The opening game will be played between two Group L teams as Ukraine's Metalist Kharkiv meet Poland's Legia Warsaw in Kiev. The game will start at 18:00 CET (17:00 GMT).

Turkish side Besiktas will be playing away to Serbian team Partizan in Belgrade on Thursday.

The Group C game will be played at the Partizan Stadium and will commence at 21:05 CET (20:05 GMT / 22:05 local time in Turkey).

On October 6, UEFA's disciplinary body announced that the Partizan's home ground will be partially closed for the next UEFA Europa League home match.

These sanctions were in response to the "racist behavior" of some of the club's fans during their game against England's Tottenham Hotspur in Serbia on September 18.

Thus, their fans will not be present in some sections of their stadium for the Besiktas match.

The "turbulent" UEFA Euro 2016 qualifier game was played between Albania and Serbia on October 14.

The match was abandoned as many Serbian fans ignited fireworks and invaded the pitch.

The unrest came after a remote-controlled drone carrying the flag of Greater Albania - including disputed Kosovo, which declared independence from Serbia in 2008 and has a majority ethnic Albanian population - appeared above the pitch in the 44th minute.

Serbian defender Stefan Mitrovic grabbed the flag which led to a fight between players and team officials from both sides while, in the south stands, fans clashed with police forces.

Trabzonspor to meet Lokeren

Meanwhile, Turkish club Trabzonspor will host Belgian side Lokeren at the Huseyin Avni Aker Stadium on Thursday.

The Group L match will kick off at 19:00 CET (20:00 local time in Turkey / 1800 GMT).

Trabzonspor's Turkish goalkeeper, Onur Recep Kivrak, will be unable to play in the match due to a serious knee injury he picked up in their previous UEFA Europa League match against Poland's Legia Warsaw.

The seriously injured Turkish international will be out of action for six months.
