Most Turkish newspapers on Thursday cover the clashes between ISIL, the militant group operating in Syria and Iraq, and forces of the pro-Kurdish Democratic Union party in Kobani, a Syrian Kurdish city besieged by ISIL.

HURRIYET runs with the headline, “They are here in this place,” with a photograph of ISIL militants crossing an underpass in Suruc district in Turkey’s southeastern province of Sanliurfa. The newspaper reports that the clashes between the two groups occured around 200-300 meters from the Turkish border and could be seen with the naked eye. ISIL militants came almost to the Turkish border, the newspaper claims.

Similar photographs are also featured in Thursday's YENI SAFAK. The newspaper runs with the headline, “Zero point at the border.” Another photograph shows people on the roof of a one-storey building watching the clashes.

Today’s newspapers also cover Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s keynote speech during the opening of the country’s new legislative session on Wednesday.

The front page of today’s SABAH reads “Utmost freedom”. The newspaper quotes Erdogan as saying, “All kinds of freedom will be brought together within our nation unless it is not a threat to national security, a tool of violence or a restriction on the freedom of others.

MILLIYET also reports Erdogan’s remarks on ISIL: “While being open to all types of cooperation regarding the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant terrorism in Iraq and Syria, Turkey will not allow itself to be exploited in the pursuit for temporary solutions.”

AKSAM quotes from the same speech: “Turkey is a country that is both a NATO member and under threat. We should make a stand against terrorist organizations.”

Turkish football team Galatasaray’s loss against Arsenal is also covered by Turkish newspapers.

VATAN reports that Galatasaray lost 4-1 to Arsenal in Wednesday’s Champions League match in London.

A 4-1 away loss for the Istanbul club lessens their chances for making for upper rounds.
