ANKARA 

Here are the main stories that the Anadolu Agency's English News Desk will cover on Thursday October 2, 2014:

1. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will head a security summit at Cankaya presidential palace, which Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu will also attend.

2. A mandate for cross-border operations in Syria and Iraq will be submitted to Turkish Parliament.

3. Turkey's EU Minister Volkan Bozkir and Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci will a sign a protocol on coordination with regards to Turkey's EU accession bid and and its Customs Union agreement with the European entity.

4. Bozkir will also greet Greek ambassador Kyriakos Loukakis and New Zeland ambassador Jonathan Curr in Ankara.

5. Science and Technology Minister Fikri Isik and Youth and Sports Minister Akif Cagatay Kilic will attend an official reception in Ankara marking the 24th anniversary of the German unification in 1990.

6. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu will meet for a breakfast, in Ankara, with the Mosul consulate staff that was abducted by ISIL militants back in June.

7. The advance of ISIL and clashes between Kurdish groups and militants in Syria as further airstrikes are launched by a U.S.-led coalition along with related developments.

8. Developments in the "Occupy Central" movement in Hong Kong, which caused mass protests after Beijing’s National Congress Standing Committee decided last month that candidates for the territory's 2017 elections would be approved by a "broadly representative" committee.
