Assad regime attacks kill 44 in Syria, say activists

DAMASCUS, Syria

At least 44 people were killed across Syria on Sunday in air and ground operations by forces of President Bashar al-Assad, opposition activists said.

The London-based Syrian Network for Human Rights, which tracks civilian and opposition casualties, said the regime’s air and land operations killed 34 from two towns in Idlib province, northwest Syria.

Separately, another opposition activist group, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said regime aircraft bombarded a hospital in the central province of Hama. At least 10 people lost their lives in the bombardment, the group said.

The death toll from the attack was feared to rise as dozens of people including children were in critical condition, it said.

Syria has been plagued by a civil war for almost four years. Tens of thousands of people have been killed and millions displaced, both internally and externally.
