JERUSALEM

Dozens of Israeli Arabs on Sunday staged a protest outside the residence of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem to protest a deteriorating security situation in the Arab towns in Israel and asked the premier to "leave."

Around 200 protesters showed up outside Netanyahu's house in response to an invitation by the Follow-up Committee for Arab Citizens of Israel, an umbrella organization that comprises all Arab political parties and NGOs in the self-proclaimed Jewish state.

The committee called for the protest to decry "negligence" of Israeli police in the Arab towns, citing a rise of crimes in the past months. According to Israeli police figures, at least 15 Arabs had been killed over the past two months in violent incidents.

The protesters called for the resignation of Netanyahu's government, saying it failed to provide security for their communities.

Earlier, the Islamic Movement in Israel accused the Israeli police of "deliberately stoking chaos in the Arab towns…to help pass the Judaization plans."
