MOGADISHU

Three Somali engineers were killed in a drive-by shooting in the capital Mogadishu on Saturday.

"Masked gunmen opened fire on the engineers' vehicle in Wadgar area in eastern Mogadishu and fled the scene," an eyewitness told Anadolu Agency.

Two engineers died on the spot, while a third succumbed to his wounds at hospital, according to witnesses.

The three engineers were working for the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack.

Somalia has remained in the grip of political violence since the outbreak of civil war in 1991.

It recently appeared to inch closer to stability with the intervention of African Union troops tasked with bringing the Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab movement to heel.
