Turkish State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister
Cemil Cicek said Thursday Turkish-U.S. cooperation contributes to peace,
security, stability and welfare in different regions of the world.
Attending the independence day reception of the U.S. Embassy in Ankara,
Cicek said that strengthening the strategic cooperation between Turkey and the
States is crucial not only for Turkey's national interests but also for global
and regional peace.
Referring to Turkish-U.S. relations, Cicek said that "we have strong ties".
We have jointly struggled against difficulties in the past and are in close
cooperation against current difficulties, Cicek said.
We share the same vision, a vision based on common values such as democracy,
freedom, the rule of law and human rights, Cicek also said.
U.S. Ambassador in Ankara, James Jeffrey, in his part, said that the
relations between the two countries have proven themselves in times of
difficulty.
Turkey is an island of stability in a region full of great complications
with its security and economic development, Jeffrey said.
The U.S. will celebrate the 233rd anniversary of its independence on July 4,
2009.
