Turkish parliament to convene on new cabinet

ANKARA 

Turkish Parliament Speaker Cemil Cicek has called an extraordinary session on September 1, Monday on the newly-announced Cabinet presided by Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu.

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday approved the 62nd Cabinet submitted by Davutoglu earlier in the day.

The government program will be read out in the general assembly by the prime minister or a minister appointed by him. MPs will discuss the program on September 4, Thursday.

On Saturday, Davutoglu's Cabinet will survive a vote of confidence.

The simple majority for winning the vote of confidence is 276 votes in the 550-seat parliament, and the ruling AK Party has 312 chairs in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.

Meanwhile, the general assembly will also convene on September 7, 8, and 9 for the remaining 24 articles of the 150-article 'bag of bills' which includes legislation relating to the mining industry - tabled after a coal mine disaster in May that killed 301 miners in western Turkey.

The majority 126 articles of the package have been passed in August. 

Turkey's new Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu will chair the AK Party's parliamentary group for the first time in the Turkish parliament September 1, Monday.
