CHICAGO, United States

Pro-Palestine activists in U.S. city Chicago protested against a campaign that supported Israeli military operations in Gaza on Thursday.

Waving Palestinian flags and chanting anti-Israel slogans, the protesters gathered outside the Hilton Hotel where the Chicago division of the Jewish United Fund had organized a rally and fundraising event billed "Chicago Stands with Israel."

The former Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Michael Oren and Chicago's Mayor Rahm Emanuel were both guests at the event.

The demonstrators lay on the ground as a reminder of the more than 2,000 Palestinians killed in the ongoing Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip.

"Today, Jewish United Fund is specifically organizing a rally in support of Israel, support of war, and support of occupation," said Hatem Abudayyeh, a spokesman for the protest's organizers, the Chicago Coalition for Justice in Palestine.

"Palestinian people are the ones who actually need help, not Israel, the killing children cannot be justified," said protester Emilie K A, herself a Jewish-American.
