BANJARMASIN, Indonesia

Rescue teams found three more bodies late Wednesday after a ferry sank in Indonesia’s Kapuas river, killing at least 15 people in Central Kalimantan province.

Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, head of public relations at Indonesia’s Board for Disaster Management, said three more passengers had been discovered dead and are still in the process of identification.

Of the 70 people believed to have been aboard the vessel carrying passengers headed to visit relatives for the Muslim holiday of Eid, 52 had survived – leaving three missing.

National Search and Rescue Agency public relations officer Amrizuna – many Indonesians use only one name – said earlier that additional rescuers and search shıps had been dispatched to help with the search and handling of victims.

The ferry had been sailing Tuesday from Kapuas Panamas village when it sank in Indonesia’s longest river.

Most of the survivors have returned to their homes, while others are still receiving treatment in nearby hospitals.
