The Parliament has been targeted by an oppressive judiciary, bureaucracy and with violence on the streets said Turkish Premier at the General Assembly special session held for the 94th aniversary of the foundation of Turkish Parliament.

Erdogan's speech was marked by his emphasis on Turkey's turbulent political history of coups.

Making references to the recent political events in Turkey including wiretappings and voice records released on Internet, Erdogan said: "As happened from time to time over the 94 years of parliament in Turkey, we can see that even today still there are some who target parliament by illegally obtaining wiretappings, fake voice recordings and videos fabricated for blackmailing."

Erdogan noted that the military coups in the country's past were carried out by weapons, however, he said that Turkey witnessed that social media had been used by some groups as a means of attacking the popular will in Turkey. He also added that opposition parties who targeted the parliament have cooperative focuses abroad.

With regards to the local election results, he said that the Turkish people discovered the plot against the government with the use of wiretappings of top officials meetings and the release of records on the internet, however, the votes in the elections show the support for democracy and parliament.

Erdogan told members of the press that negotiations within his party on the upcoming presidential elections are ongoing and he will meet President Abdullah Gul on Thursday regarding this issue.
