Syria's opposition reports al-Assad to ICC

CAIRO

The opposition Syrian National Coalition (SNC) on Sunday revealed that it submitted to the International Criminal Court 25 documents that provide evidence on the use of chemical weapons, internationally-banned weapons and the rape crimes by forces loyal to the Syrian regime of  President Bashar al-Assad.

Speaking to a press conference in Cairo, head of the legal committee at the coalition Haysam al-Malih said the coalition also subsumed a note explaining that it is the legal representative of the Syrian people.

Al-Malih expected the complaint to be approved within the next days.

According to al-Malih, around 200,000 people were killed in Syria during the past three years and that 5.5 million Syrian children, including 4.3 million inside Syria, are in need of aid.

Having dragged into its fourth year, the civil war in Syria has displaced millions of people and left hundreds of thousands dead or injured.

Al-Malih said around 8.8 million Syrians have been displaced inside Syria so far and 3.2 million outside it because of the conflict.
